ABOUT THIS LIVESTREAM
Virtual Railfan’s live train cameras at Elkhart, Indiana, capture the action on Norfolk Southern’s (NS) Chicago Line, the former New York Central Railroad (NYC) main line between Chicago and New York, originally the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway (LS&MS). Hosted by the National New York Central Railroad Museum and the Amtrak station, the cameras include a PTZ at the station and two fixed-view cameras (east and west, members only) at the museum. Located 100 miles east of Chicago at milepost 421.6, this feed showcases up to 100 daily trains, including NS freight (manifest, intermodal, and locals), Amtrak’s Capitol Limited (Chicago-D.C.) and Lake Shore Limited (Chicago-New York) with four daily movements, and Grand Elk Railroad (Watco) operations on the Kalamazoo Branch. The Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) also has track rights.

The National New York Central Railroad Museum offers a collection of vintage locomotives, rolling stock, and artifacts, preserving Elkhart’s rail heritage. The nearby Robert Young Yard, NS’s largest classification yard east of the Mississippi, supports extensive freight operations. The Amtrak station, visible in the west camera, serves as a key passenger stop.
